I’m here in the part of the country that will be hosting many evacuees from Gustav. I thought about the diabetes concerns with evacuating – such as keeping insulin cold; finding suitable food; securing sources of medication, appropriate meals, testing supplies, and places to exercise. It is a challenge but it is something we are used to as part of the Gulf Coast living experience. It is important to know where health care facilities are and also keep a lookout for places where you can get free wi-fi. Libraries are usually pretty reliable places to find public access computers and wi-fi.

I’m also worried about what my ultrasound will show.
